Counter-Terrorism Seminar held in Israel and has also completed leadership studies at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina. Chief Roper
is a sought after speaker and has lectured nationally and internationally on various strategic leadership topics.
Chief Roper was commissioned as an Army 2nd Lieutenant in 1983 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He has
over 32 years’ experience in the Army Reserves where he serves as a Major General. He is currently the Commanding General of the 80th Training
Command (TASS) in Richmond, VA with Army Reserve units in 38 states.
He has completed several military leadership courses with honors. He is the recipient of numerous military awards and decorations including the Legion of Merit,
the Bronze Star, and the General Douglas McArthur Leadership Award, which is given annually to the top U.S. Army Officers in the nation. He also serves as a principal
member of the Secretary of the Army’s Army Reserve Forces Policy Committee.
He serves as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice and is a member of the FBI National Academy Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and numerous
other professional development associations and community organizations. He also serves on the Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Advisory Committee; the U.S. Attorney’s Office Law Enforcement
Coordinating Committee and is President of the Jefferson County Chiefs of Police Association. He and Edith, his beautiful wife of 29 years are the proud parents
of two lovely daughters, Krystle and Amber.
