In November 2005, Maxine Herring Parker was elected to serve as the Birmingham City Council representative for District 4. Councilor Parker’s platform during the election focused on a commitment to serving the citizens in her District and bettering their quality of life. Helping to promote economic and community development in District 4 is a top priority for Councilor Parker. Councilor Parker is chair of the Park, Recreation, and Cultural Arts Committee and also serves on the Public Improvement and Utilities Committees.

Councilor Parker’s spiritual growth and development is being nurtured at Oak Street Baptist Church. She serves as the Clerk-Secretary at Oak Street, is a member if the Flora Herring Mission and the Women’s Bible Class of the Sunday school. She is a retired forty-one-year employee of Talladega College, Alabama’s oldest Historically Black College, founded in 1867, where she served as the Executive Assistant to the President. She is delighted to have served for twenty-seven years as the Secretary to the Talladega College Board of Trustees. Her forty-one-year tenure at Talladega College afforded her the opportunity to serve under the administration of six Presidents, six Interim Presidents, and six Board of Trustee Chairpersons.
