During the Birmingham City Council meeting Tuesday, February 2, 2010, Council:
1. Approved a resolution determining that the Neighborhood Small Business Economic Development Informational Summit to be held Monday, March 8, 2010 at the Sheraton Civic Center Grand Ballroom, serves a public purpose that promotes goodwill and serves a public interest, requesting that Birmingham funds in an amount not to exceed $5,000.00 be used to pay for the event, and authorizing the Mayor to execute an appointment letter for The Patton Group to serve as the fiscal agent for the event. 2. This week Birmingham City Councilor Jay Roberson will lead a delegation to the state capitol to meet with legislators who can address their collective concerns and talk with a Department of Transportation Engineer. “We have surmised a list of concerns and possible solutions that coincide with some of the issues being debated during the 2010 Legislative Session,†said Roberson, the District 7 Council representative. On Thursday, February 4, 2010, at 6:30 a.m., the delegation will gather at Lawson State Community College. The bus is scheduled to roll out of the parking lot at 7:00 a.m. The itinerary for the day includes –

11:00 a.m. Meeting with Speaker Pro-Tempore of the House Representative Demetrius C. Newton 11:30 a.m. Luncheon Host Ron Sparks

2:40 p.m. Tour of Historic Downtown Montgomery Host Montgomery City Council Pro-Tempore Tracy Larkin
5:00 p.m. Arrive at Lawson State

3.Council recognized broadcasting veteran Mr. Bill Bolen with a resolution that reads in part - WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Birmingham is proud to recognize those individuals whose lives and work positively affect so many of us, we so recognize broadcasting veteran Mr. Bill Bolen, an award winning broadcast journalist. As he retires his microphone, the Birmingham City Council takes great pleasure in commending him as an outstanding news anchor and reporter for WBCR-TV/FOX6 since 1969.
