The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are investigating a homicide. The incident took place on Friday, June 24, 2011, at approximately 1:20p.m. in the 1700 block of Alemeda Court Southwest.

The victim has been identified as: Patrick Dewayne Peoples, B/M, 22, of Birmingham, Alabama.

Officers from the West Precinct responded to the incident location to investigate a report of a person shot. Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering from several gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived to transport the victim to U.A.B. Hospital for treatment. Hospital staff later pronounced the victim deceased as a result of his injuries.

A suspect is in custody.
