Homicide Investigation Update

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives have arrested and charged a second suspect in connection with a homicide investigation.  The incident occurred on Sunday, January 29, 2012 at approximately 3:30 a.m. at 3113 Avenue S.

The first victim has been identified as: Demetrius Sanford, B/M, 19.

The second victim has been identified as: Jeffery Davis Jr., B/M, 23.

The third victim has been identified as: Ronnie James Render, B/M, 42.

The forth victim has been identified as: Jonathan Sanchez, B/M, 23.

The fifth victim has been identified as: Charles Render, B/M, 21.

The first suspect has been identified as: Rashad Stoves, B/M, 17, of Birmingham, Alabama. Five Capital Murder Warrants with no bond have been obtained against the suspect.  Two Robbery 1st degree warrants and one Attempted Murder warrant in two unrelated cases have been obtained against the suspect.  Bonds in the unrelated cases total $1,000,000.00.

The second suspect has been identified as: Artavius Underwood, B/M, 16, of Birmingham, Alabama.  Five Capital Murder warrants with no bond have been obtained against the suspect.  A Robbery 1st degree warrant with a $250,000.00 bond on an unrelated case has been obtained against the suspect.

The suspect is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.  The investigation is ongoing.
