Homicide Update

To date, fifty-one (51) chargeable Homicides have been reported in the City of Birmingham during 2010, compared to sixty-one (61) at this time in 2009.

Homicide #51: Occurred on Friday, December 17, 2010 at approximately 10:45 p.m. at 4004 Walnut Avenue Southwest.

Officers from the West Precinct responded to the incident location to investigate a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located the victim lying inside residence. The victim was unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead by Birmingham Fire and Rescue.

The victim has been identified as:  Randall Smith, B/M, 55, of Birmingham, Alabama.

A suspect has been taken into custody and additional information will be released pending completion of warrant procedures.
