Homicide Update

To date, fifty-eight (58) chargeable Homicides have been reported in the City of Birmingham during 2010, compared to sixty-five (65) at this time in 2009.

Homicide #58: Was discovered on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at approximately 3:00 a.m. in the 3500 block of Carver Avenue Southwest.

Officers received information that a person was lying on the side of the road in a drainage ditch. Officers arrived and located the victim unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced the victim deceased on the scene. Investigators believe this homicide is possibly related to homicide #57 of 2010. The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The victim’s identity will be released pending conformation and notification of next of kin. The victim appears to be a Hispanic male.
